Climate change is the type of issue
that brings the future into the picture.
And this is why it's so important
for all of us to engage.
Because it is really about the lives of children
and grandchildren.
What do we want them to experience?
What kind of world do we want them to find?
And this is very much decided now.

Because of the financial crisis, some people are saying that
the ambitions for the climate agreement in Copenhagen should be scaled down.
However, the opposite is true.
The costs of inaction on climate change are immense
both financially and morally. All of us will feel the effects.
But the poorer people will suffer first.

一時期嵐を呼んだが、50％削減目標はそれどころではない。
現在、地球の人口は 77億8662万6743人
七年前 ここで確認したときは 71億2968万8148人
二年前 69億6581万6871人。
三年前は 69億0236万5393人。

2030年にはそれが80億、2050年には90億になると言われている。

***追記（2015年5月15日）************************************
上の（Joseph Tさんの）定義は間違いではないが、objectiveとgoalの違いが少し曖昧。
goalは広い意味で使われている。the final goal とか the ultimate goal とかすれば
objective が goal の下位にきているのを理解しやすい。
